Abyss Penetentiary Facility is a Prison Station in the Abyss-System within the Obsidian Wastes. It is located near The Abyss.
A maximum security level prison station holds the most dangerous and notorious criminals from all across the United Planets. Located at the gravitational edge of a massive black hole known as The Abyss the station is equipped with a set of powerful thrusters, which keep it at a safe distance.
More notorious than its inmates, however, is the station's failsafe system: In case of an inmate revolt the engines can be momentarily shut down to drop the station into the black hole's grip, dooming everyone aboard.
While the shutdown was meant as a large ditch resort, it was, in fact, executed for a more sinister plot, when UPA Chairman Phlic Aelhoc had former UPMF Admiral Ray Firkis imprisoned aboard to lure Task Force: Warrior to the facility. Upon their arrival he had stations engines shut down to lure them further into the Abyss' grasp. The plan failed though, as the heavily modified Black Scorpion would be fast enough to retrieve Firkis and escape the black hole's gravity.
