Description
Cophuran is a Planet in the Cophura-System within the Phoenix Tail. It is the 3rd celestial body within the system. It is classified as Prime World.
This upper-medium sized planet is one of the founding member worlds of the United Planets Alliance. About 95% of the world is covered in oceans with a number of large tropical islands located in and around the equatoreal region, which a great living paradise for those who can afford it..
Population & Demography
The Cophuranee are a humanoid species native to Cophuran. While sharing the overall physiology with other humoid races, they are easily distinguishable by their blue-tinted skin, eyes and flat dark hair that ranges from black to blue or purple.
Advantagious conditions have led the Cophuranee metabolism to age alot slower of that of a other humanoid races, allowing them to reach age of 150 years and more. An individual's age can vaguely be determined by their colors: During infancy and adolescence Cophuranee usually show deep blue or cyan skin, which proceeds to grow lighter and loose saturation as they age. evolving into light gray or almost white, with the hair changoing from black to a silver-cobalt blue and finally silvery-white.
History
Throughout history Cophuran, thanks to its resource-rich oceans and pleasant living conditions, has more than once attracted the interest of hostile species seeking to colonize and stripmine the planet. As such the Cophuranee had to fend off numerous invasion attempts. As a result, while not xenophobic per se, Cophurans show great reluctance welcoming foreign species to their homeworld and if possible, prefer meeting with other races to be held off-world.
Credit to their successes in fending off any invasion attempts so far, many Cophuranee are known to carry themselves with pride and self-confidence and loftiness, usually commanding natural authority inspiring resolve in others. That confidence took a severe blow, however, when the planet came under attack by a large invasion force sent out by the Dhilani Empire in the early 2510's. During the attack a great part of the planet's capitol was destroyed and burried beneath the sea. Despite being able to deter the invaders, this near-defeat crippled the people's natural superiority and grounded them once more.
In the later history of the planet, the remaining part underwater conplexes that had been left mostly undamaged became a temporary base of operations for a Resistance movement against UPA dictator Phlic Aelhoc.

Culture
Cophuran is renown throughout the galaxy for its technological prowess, constantly pushing forward modern high tech standards. Most major cities are constructed as huge domes floating above the ocean surface with an entire ecosystem of their own, preserving the planet's natural environment. The largest of these is Traquia, the planet's capitol, which is located partly underwater, partly on solid ground and partly on the ocean surface.

- Cophuranee were first introduced in the fourth handdrawn LIONS comic, Dalor's Revenge, the first being a barkeeper onboard the space station Bridesta
- The race was first depicted as an anthropomorphed Xenomorph-like Alien. (Weird stuff, really!)
